Connect the homes. Sovereignty is the sum of households that have agreed to depend on each other.
Show notes
The season's families in one room, connecting their capacities into something that governs itself. Recorded at home in Washington, DC, this conversation follows the ordinary practices — the meals, the rooms, the routines — that make Mutual a working capacity rather than an idea. We sit with what the household keeps, what it gives away, and what it is still learning to name.
Guest
The Homes of Season One lives and builds east of the Anacostia River. Their household practice has shaped a generation of neighbors, and their home carries the record of that work in its walls, its shelves, and its kitchen.

Chief Complaint & Symptoms
Seven capacities living in separate houses, waiting to be introduced.
The Prescription
Connect the homes. Sovereignty is the sum of households that have agreed to depend on each other.
The Regimen
- 1.Name one capacity your home already practices well. Say it out loud at the table.
- 2.Ask one neighbor what their home has that yours does not. Offer what yours has.
- 3.Set a standing hour each week that belongs to the household, not to work.
- 4.Write down one thing an elder taught you, in their words, before the week closes.
Case Notes
This household did not describe its work as care, organizing, or archiving. It described it as what you do. The naming is ours; the practice was already there — generations deep, unpaid, and unbroken.
Daily Dose
Ten minutes at the window, before anyone needs anything from you.
PRN — Take As Needed
When the week overwhelms: cook something that takes time on purpose, and feed one person who is not in your house.
Interactions
May conflict with urgency, respectability, and the belief that help must be earned. Reduce dosage of self-sufficiency; increase reciprocity slowly.
