We read home through eight remedies — each one already practiced in households that were never credited for it. A community that can tend the minds, bodies & souls of its members is a community that can set the terms of its own wellness.

Homes hold what institutions forget. Photo albums on the shelf, the handwriting on the recipe card, stories forgotten by the census, the corner where the elders sat — these are archival practices. Memory kept at home is memory kept on our own terms, in our own voice, at our own pace.
A people who control their own record control the story used to govern them.
our capacity to act and mobilize
As a point of departure and return, home prepares individuals and families for how they move with and through the world. Homes have historically served as launch points for social change, from kitchen-table meetings to neighborhood organizing — belonging enacted through participation, not paperwork.
Citizenship practiced at the threshold becomes power exercised in the world.
our capacity to make, sustain, and circulate
Long before storefronts, there were front rooms. Hair done in the kitchen, plates sold on Fridays, tools lent down the block, money rotated through a susu. Home is where value is made and circulated among people who know each other's names.
Wealth that circulates between homes stays inside the community that produced it. We dream our realities.
our capacity to contemplate, discern, make meaning, and tend
Home is where we sit with what is hard, where disputes are mediated, where prayer and quiet are kept. It is spiritual technology: altars and windowsills, early mornings, the phone call that talks somebody down. Discernment is a household skill.
A community that can settle itself does not need outside authority to keep its peace.
our capacity to learn, practice, and transmit
Skills pass hand to hand at home — canning, framing, budgeting, harmonizing, hair, engines, herbs. Mastery is built through repetition witnessed by family. What is transmitted at home outlasts any curriculum.
Skill held in common is infrastructure no one can repossess.
our capacity to depend upon and care for one another
Rides given, children watched, plates carried across the yard, rent covered quietly. Mutual aid is not charity — it is a reciprocal system of survival and abundance built on trust between households.
Interdependence between homes is the precondition for independence as a people.
our capacity to govern what we build together
Municipality is a capacity of home and of the community. It begins with the household deciding how it lives — what it keeps, what it shares, who it answers to — and matures when those decisions connect across homes. Not a jurisdiction drawn on a map, but a body of households that already share medicine, memory, labor, and care, and that recognizes its own authority over what it maintains.
A community that governs what it built together does not wait to be given permission.
Practiced together, the eight remedies — Municipality among them — produce Sovereignty: interdependence within the community creating greater independence for the community within society. It is not self-sufficiency house by house; it is the reliability of a network dense enough that outside conditions lose their power to dictate our terms.

Our interdependence is our path to independence. Sovereignty is only possible when we are together. Our history shows us the power of home.
When Medicine, Memory, Movement, Manifestation, Meditation, Mastery, Mutual Aid, and Municipality live not in one home but across a community of homes, they stop being private practices and become shared infrastructure. Municipality is the eighth remedy — a community governing what it built together — and a Municipality that can feed, heal, teach, move, and care for itself is Sovereignty: interdependence within the community becoming independence for the community.
